The first hundred racks

The first rack took four hours and looked like it. The hundredth takes us under thirty minutes and looks like something you'd keep in a lounge room.

Most of the changes came from complaints. The base was too narrow, so it tipped when you pulled the outside board out. The arms were too close, so a fish wouldn't fit next to a shortboard. The oil finish we started with went sticky in humidity.

Wider base rails, 150–160mm arm spacing and a hard-wax oil later, the design settled. Everything since has been about making it ship flat without losing rigidity.

Freight matters because Australia is enormous. We build in batches and ship direct from the Gold Coast so a surfer in Margaret River pays a fair price for the same rack as someone in Currumbin.
